Spring Term 2020 in Year 3/4

'Into the forest' - our cross-curricular work based this term is based on the theme of forests. We will be looking at the world's rainforests (with a particular focus on the Amazon), and contrasting them with forests found here in the UK.  The children will be going on a field trip to Conkers, an award winning attraction at The heart of the National Forest, as part of our enquiry based learning and also as a stimulus for our writing.

'Why are rainforests important?'

In our geography based enquiry each lesson will be structured around an enquiry question about: where rainforests are found; the rainforest climate; plants and creatures that might live there; what rainforests look like; how people use them and benefit from them. We will be also be researching the threats to the rainforests and what can be done to save them.

In English, we will be learning to write persuasive texts, narrative, poetry and news reports. We will also be writing non-chronological reports and explanation type texts in our enquiry and science work.

Our D&T project will be designing and making a rainforest creature with a moving mechanism.

Our artwork will be inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau: we will be looking at using different painting and collage techniques, as well as batik.

Our science topics will be light and electricity.

Guided reading sessions, including reciprocal reading, handwriting and spelling and grammar rules sessions will be taught each week and as an integral part of our English lessons.

PHSE sessions will be related to the theme of 'Kindness' - our Greythorn value for the half term.

Maths is taught every day for one hour and follows the National Curriculum objectives for the specific year group.

Music (Rattle & Roll), PE (Mr Bingley), RE (Mrs Reedman), Computing (Miss Smith) will be taught on rotation during PPA afternoons (Week A - Tuesday/Week B Thursday)
