The Governing Body

The Full Governing Body (FGB) has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. The day to day business of school life remains the responsibility of the head teacher and the senior leadership team.  Our Governing Body is made up of staff, parent and co-opted governors and our Head Teacher. Our FGB delegates certain responsibilities to two main committees that each have a particular focus.  The Resources Committee is focused on the practical operations of the school such as Finance, HR & Premises.

The Governing Body’s Core Functions

In order to achieve the goal of promoting high standards of educational achievement, the governing body has a strong focus on three core strategic functions. Briefly explained these are;

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. For example, by agreeing school policies and concurring content & priorities for improvement in the school development plan.
  • To hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff. For example, asking questions, offering support, constructive advice, help improve proposals, monitor and evaluate school performance, performance management of the head teacher.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent. For example, checking that resources are allocated in line with the school’s strategic priorities, benchmarking spend with similar schools, questioning value for money with budgetary spend.

Contacting with the Governing Body

We would like to be as accessible as possible within the school community. Suggestions for improvement and your ideas and comments will always be welcome. You can contact the Governors by;

– Use this contact form below: This will go to the Chair, and will be forwarded to the relevant committee/governors if appropriate.
– Letter: Please address any written correspondence to the Chair of Governors c/o Greythorn Primary School. Hand this into the school office and your letter will be forwarded as soon as possible.
– Meet Us: There are parent governors who are often at the school gates dropping off or picking up their children.

Just a reminder: If you have an issue with something in school, your first point of contact should always be your child’s teacher and subsequently the head teacher – please contact the office to make an appointment. Governors do not normally get involved in the day to day running of the school – that is rightly left to the Head Teacher and the senior leadership team.

We welcome your views and your continued support of the school.
