Autumn Term Sports Roundup

Autumn Term Sports Roundup

It’s been a really busy first term at school and it all started with the Boys and Girls Football Tournaments at Ruddington in September.  They all worked well in their teams and showed real determination, the girls playing very well defensively. In their Cup match against Radcliffe on Trent Amy scored the first team goal! The boys had a great tournament, playing well in 6 games. They also took part in a cup match and played several friendlies.

Next up in our sporting calendar was the Ikano Mini Marathon. Thirty three children took part and had a great run. Four children even won awards! Well done to everyone and a special mention to Freya, Connie, Michael and Daniel. It would be lovely if we had even more Greythorn children taking part next year.

October was a month of Rugby to celebrate the World Cup, we had a Rugby coach in school and the Year 5/6 children took part in two tournaments. Their tag rugby skills came on in leaps and bounds. There was also an Autumn Festival of Sport at West Bridgford School, the children taking part had lots of fun and showed a great deal of determination. Some Year 5/6 children also took part in the Cross Country relay competition at Ruddington Park. They showed the usual Greythorn spirit, cheering each other on and running through all of the puddles getting as muddy as possible!

In November the sport moved indoors, first up was the Year 5/6 sportshall competition. The relays were very exciting with the loudest cheering I’ve heard for a while! Fifteen of our KS1 children attended a Gymnastics festival, Mrs Wainwright was very proud of every child who took part.

Finally four of our year 5/6 children attended a Bronze Ambassador Training session last week with Mrs Kenna. As a result of their training they intend to start a Boccia Club next term on Thursday lunch times.

I’d like to say a huge thankyou to all of the Teachers, Teaching Assistants and parents who have supported the children in their sporting endeavours and a big well done to all of the children who have taken part.
