At Greythorn, Science education provides the foundations for understanding the world around us through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  We aim for children to develop their understanding of the nature, processes and methods of Science through enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. We strive to equip children with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of Science today and for the future.

In the Foundation Stage, Science is taught as an integral part of the topics covered during the year and we relate the scientific aspects of the children’s work to the objectives set out in the EYFS curriculum – Understanding the World. At Key Stage One, scientific study is combined with other subject areas. At Key Stage Two, Science is taught on a weekly basis and is often linked to the current topic.

To help raise the profile of science at Greythorn, we have designated Year 6 Science Ambassadors whose responsibilities include, hosting science assemblies and running Science clubs at lunchtimes. They also share mini-investigations with other classes across the school.
